SEND

At our college we aim to offer excellence and opportunity to all students, whatever their background, culture, faith, gender, ability, disability, or medical needs. We have high expectations of every learner and strive to remove barriers to participation and achievement so that all students feel valued members of our community.

“SEN and pastoral support, very impressed. Staff are kind and responsive. My child feels their needs are addressed in a way they did not feel at secondary school.” 2026 Parent Survey Quote

Through appropriate curricular provision, we recognise that students:

  • Have different educational, behavioural, and cultural needs and aspirations
  • Require varied strategies to access learning effectively
  • Acquire, process, and communicate information at different rates
  • Benefit from a range of teaching approaches and experiences

Students with special educational needs have learning difficulties or disabilities that call for additional provision. A student is considered to have a learning difficulty if:

  • They experience significantly greater difficulty in learning than most of their peers
  • They have a disability that prevents or hinders them from accessing the educational facilities provided for students of the same age

We are committed to ensuring that all students, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), receive high-quality teaching that enables them to thrive.

  • Quality First Teaching is at the heart of our approach. Every student is entitled to excellent classroom practice that is inclusive and responsive to individual needs.
  • Our subject teachers are specialists in their fields and bring a wealth of expertise to their teaching.
  • Staff receive regular training and professional development focused on strategies to support students with additional needs, ensuring that provision is both effective and evidence based.

For our highest-need learners, we provide dedicated 1:1 support outside of the classroom.

  • Students are paired with an allocated SEND mentor who works closely with them to provide personalised guidance (e.g. organisation and planning, liaising with external agencies and supporting with post-18 pathways).

We also work closely with parents and carers to support students with SEN. We encourage active partnerships through ongoing communication, and involvement in planning and reviewing the provision.

We are always happy to answer queries, provide support or discuss our provision.
