Student Leads the Way in Raising Awareness on FGM

Speaking with a mature blend of eloquence and passion, Hannah explained the law-making process, how it has evolved over time to protect all women, and the short term and long term effects FGM might have.

In her spare time, Hannah writes poetry and, at last year’s Lionheart Speaks event, performed her own poem – Sunburn – which also focused on FGM.

Since then, Hannah has performed the poem at our Autumn Live Lounge event and delivered her work again during the assembly, raising awareness and ensuring that those affected or worried are aware of the support they can access.

Concluding this topic, staff members positively engaged with some refresher training, which also fed into a unit in the Personal Development Curriculum (PDC) on ‘Keeping Yourself and Others Safe and Healthy.’
